What is this?
It's the personal and professional website of Ryan Carver. Here are some things you might like to know about me:
In a previous life I created things like snowflake makers and yo-yo games. Nowadays I work on Measure Map.
I live in beautiful Portland, Oregon. My nick is mindel for all you #rubyonrails folks.
Experience
With over 11 years experience as a programmer/designer, I've worked with a lot of technologies like Director, Flash, Perl, PHP, Java, MySQL, Oracle, CSS, XHTML, XML, and most recently, Ruby. I am working exclusively with Ruby on Rails for the time being, as anything else just seems like wasted energy.
I fill the gap between programmers and designers by playing both. My designs are simple and straightforward. Attention to detail is high, and so is usability.
Portfolio
Below are links to some of my older work (chronological). Unless otherwise noted, I was responsible for both design and code. All sites were crafted with simple, semantic XHTML and CSS.
- She is Me
- A blog and resource site managed by my wife. Built with Ruby on Rails and Typo.
- MateMinder
- "Your way to nag without nagging". It's a fun (and free) way for couples to make sure they remember each other. Built with a custom web framework in PHP, which, though not unlike Rails, is just not quite as pretty.
- KU Endowment
- I created a CMS for this deceptively simple site. It features in-place, rich-text content editing and much more. Built in Java with Spring and Hibernate.
- Online donation form
- Online donation form for KU Endowment. Lots of fun tricks like auto-calculating totals and credit card cvv2 help. Java, Spring and Hibernate tying into ViaKlix backend.
- Jockey Comfort
- Online community site for Jockey. Built with PHP, MySQL
- Being Magazine
- Online version of Jockey's lifestyle magazine. PHP, MySQL
